Reading From Left to Right
We read and write English from left-to-right. This left-to-right flat array of print is an essential constituent of the written English language. Proper directional tracking is looking at and processing all the letters in order from left-to-right and accurate directional tracking is fundamental for reading success.
Boustrophedon is a type of bi-directional writing, mostly seen in antiquated manuscripts and inscriptions. Every other line of writing is flipped with reversed letters. This body of work consists of one drawing, Reading From Left to Right, completed conceptually with that notion in mind and nine more abstracted from the first emphasizing boustrophedon. I want viewers to see the work in the same way a farmer ploughs her field; first one direction and then back the other way just below the first pass.
